I read a lot of reviews for this vest, and understood it would be relaxed fit, so I agree that it’s pretty generous in the sizing description; if you want a closer fit, then it’ll probably run large for you and it may be best to size down. For example, I’m a solid 6+ and have plenty of room for layering a thick hoodie underneath. The Small size say it fits 4-6 – so if you’re really a 4, it’ll probably be a bit too big. I appreciate those reviewers who warned that “taupe gray” is actually purple/lavender. That’s very true – it is STRAIGHT UP dark lavender. No one would look at it in person and think, gee, that’s “taupe” or “gray.” Not a deal breaker because I was given a heads up by other reviewers, but I really would have preferred the gray pictured in the photos. So Carhartt, enough already, just update the dang photo or change the name of the color on your website–this isn’t a problem with all our monitors showing the wrong shade! This is a credibility issue because I now question all your color descriptions (except Carhartt brown) — nobody wants a surprise in the mailbox, so be accurate, it costs you nothing. Finally, I think the construction of the vest is very nice quality. I appreciate the fleece lining in the front pockets, the interior phone pocket, 2 zippered pockets (thank you–I have stuff I don’t want to lose, like keys!), and metal zippers instead of cheap plastic. BUT why didn’t you go the extra mile and give it a two-way zipper down the front??? It really needs a two-way zipper because the bottom of the zipper is the weak point when bending and sitting. That’s where all the stress goes, and I don’t want it riding up to my shoulders when seated (I’m petite). Without those issues – 1) poor photo/color description and 2) lacking a two-way zipper, this would have been a 5-star review. I’d actually buy another color if it had a two-way zipper…

First time owning a vest and I absolutely love it. I’ve been wearing it everyday for the past week. Keeps me warm over my hoodie. Highly recommend this vest to anyone who likes to keep warm over hoodies or under jackets. I do wish that the front was the same length as the back. But I can definitely deal with it. It’s no big deal honestly.

I absolutely love this vest. It runs big to me. I ordered a L. I’m 5’6 and 173 lbs. it’s big enough that I wore it over a sweatshirt, and heated jacket, a leather jacket, and the zest on top when riding my motorcycle. I’m ordering a M for daily wear.

I bought this vest because I have the matching jacket, which I love, and the vest was made with the same quality, BUT I didn’t pay attention to the “relaxed fit” on the vest description. This vest is extremely large. I bought an XS and tried it over a heavy hoodie and was swimming in it. I’m 5′ 2″ and 110 lbs. Even over my hunting jacket this vest is baggy. It doesn’t look like they offer it in a slimmer fit, so I will be returning it. It honestly looks really nice otherwise. One thing to note, the sherpa lining is kind of a cream/grayish color on the Carhartt Brown vest, not black as it appears in the website photos.

This is an excellent Item! I heard that Carhartt runs large but I ordered a Ladies XL and it fit perfectly. It has room to wear a hoodie under it too! Very warm.

Wow!! This is my First Carhartt vest and Absolutely Love it! :o)
It is the MOST Durable vest I’ve EVER owned of such Fine Quality and just HAD to order one for myself!!
It fits pretty good however, a little roomy. And I have learned to order XS for work wear as clothing tends to run a bit larger and so, a Small would be too big!
I greatly respect this brand and see So many workers and daily folks wearing their attire and have since ordered multiple clothing from Carhartt!

The quality of the vest is great! Very durable and feels warm for outside work. I however was deciding between the small or medium, I can fall into both sizes depending on the fit. I ordered a medium and should have gone with the small. I also ordered the grey, which in the picture is a very nice light grey. When it arrived it is very dark and almost have a purple tone to it. It does not seem to match the picture well. I have not worn it out yet, I am deciding on returning it or not.

I got this vest in the black colour and size small. I am 5,8 and 130 pounds. The vest is shorter in the front so if you wear oversized hoodies the vest will be shorter than your hoodie. ( I didn’t expect it to be shorter in the front) hope that helps 🙂

I have one of these in brown which I love. I went to buy one for my partner in gray. As another reviewer stated, the “taupe gray” shown on the website is not the true color. It does definitely have a purple hue to it. Carhartt, please correct your images to match the correct color of the fabric. Now I have to figure out how to return this. Other than the color, I love the vest that I have. It’s warm and good quality. Though, mine doesn’t have a loop to hang it and the new one I ordered does. Maybe I got an old version.

EXTREAMLY Disappointed. I’ve had two Carhartt Duck vest in the past and loved them. Received a new one this year for Christmas and the new Relaxed fit is terrible. It’s bulky and unflattering. The original vests had a slight curve to the waist that helped make them look feminine. If I wanted a big square boxy vest, I would have just ordered a men’s. I will be returning this one.

Carhartt has discontinued so many styles. And switched them for styles such as this vest. Which on the face seems like a normal sherpa carhartt vest. But if you’re even slightly tall this vest is going to seem like it’s cropped. If you wear them with carhartt slim dungarees (which are notorious for being low rise for some reason?) you will, at some point expose yourself to someone when you bend over. I’m 5’10 & the vest is just too short. I do a lot of bending, lifting etc. I need work wear that’s dependable. Why can’t women find dependable work wear?
Also, if you’re reading this and saying oh, well I’m tall, I’ll just size up and that should fix this problem, don’t you’ll be swimming around in a vest, that’s way too wide and still too short.

This isn’t really a review. Please bring back the vest that you had out a couple of years ago. I don’t remember the specific name, but it can in the traditional brown, a wine color and maybe a gray I think. It was hooded. Had the Sherpa lining. It had a waist band that made it look more feminine and less frumpy. I put the brown color in my car and put all of my information. I thought I placed order end waited for weeks. No email and no vest ever arrived. I was so disappointed. Card was never charged… so I assume I missed something. But it was sold out when I went to order it (again). It was the cutest style ever. Please bring it back!!!!!

I love the Sherpa-lined mock vest! I believe it runs true to size. I especially love the inside zipper pocket. It works perfectly under my relaxed-fit jacket when it’s colder outside.

Fit perfect, very warm, absolute necessity to layering. It’s been 28 in the mornings and to shed clothing while working is important, and if going out, a must for comfort and warmth. Good quality rugged feel and breaks on more over time
